I should actually begin by saying that as a challenge to myself this year and as a present for turning 40, I decided I would do the Richmond 8K.  After reading this month's Running World, there was an article on doing a half marathon complete with beginner's training guide.  Sooo, I changed my goal to doing the Outer Banks half marathon.  I have been doing my training in secret b/c I didn't want anyone to know just yet that this was my plan.  Of course, now I've spilled the beans, haven't I?

Today was my tempo run.  I did 2.5 miles at a comfortably hard pace.  The complete run was over 3 miles.  According to  a Toby Tanser article, I need to be doing a 6 mile tempo run. He was, however, the one who wrote this training guide I am following so I'll just keep following what I've got.

Heel hurts.  Plantar fachiitis is what I am thinking.

I had walked 35 minutes in the morning, but needed to do a run to make up for the run I didn't get in on Tuesday. Pushed myself to get on the treadmill in the afternoon to do my run. It was too hot to be outside. The children were w/ my mother-in-law so I knew it was now or never. This was my 3 x 12 minute run at a medium pace with 2 minute walking breaks between the intervals. The first interval I worked through some pain in my heel; the second interval felt really good. I easily could have increased my pace, but was afraid I would overtrain and hurt my heel worse. I felt really good when I was done and am glad I pushed myself to get it done.
